THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved SPC Island Power Corp.’s applications to connect its battery energy storage power projects in Bohol and Panay to the electricity grid.
In separate decisions promulgated on Monday, the ERC authorized SPC Island Power to develop and own transmission facilities to connect its 30-megawatt (MW) Bohol battery energy storage power plant to the grid via the nearest substations of National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.
Authorization was also given for SPC Island Power’s 49.90-MW Panay battery energy storage system plant.
SPC Island Power is a business unit of listed SPC Power Corp.
The Bohol plant’s transmission facilities consist of a 37.5-megavolt-ampere (MVA) 69/13.8-kilovolt (kV) takeoff substation, protection and telecommunication equipment and a 20-meter 69-kV transmission line.
The transmission facilities of the Panay plant include a 72-MVA 13.8/138-kV takeoff substation, complete protection systems and telecommunication equipment, and a 350-meter, single-circuit 138-kV transmission line.
The ERC said the estimated total cost of the Bohol battery storage transmission facilities was more than P193 million. For the Panay transmission facilities, the commission’s cost estimate was P363 million.
The ERC noted that the transmission facilities for the Bohol battery energy storage system had not yet been constructed in compliance with proper procedures.
But it pointed out that the transmission facilities for the Panay battery energy storage system were completed before ERC approval was issued.
In light of this, the ERC emphasized anew that all generation companies and grid users intending to undertake similar projects must strictly obtain prior authority from the commission before proceeding with development and construction.
SPC Power Corp. shares on Tuesday dropped P0.30, or 2.8 percent, to close at P10.40 per share.
