THE National Convention (NatCon50) of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), held from April 7 to 12 at the SMX Convention Center in Manila, marked a momentous occasion in the organization's history. Coinciding with the UAP's 50th founding anniversary, this milestone event was a resounding success, drawing an estimated 8,000 in-house delegates representing over 250 UAP chapters nationwide, alongside several foreign-based ones from the Middle East, Australia, Canada, and the United States. The figure does not include online participants. With its theme, 'Borderless,' this year's convention truly reflected the global reach and growing solidarity of Filipino architects under the banner of the UAP, the accredited professional organization of architects in the Philippines.
This golden anniversary celebration comes at a pivotal time following the recent landmark Supreme Court decision affirming that the professional practice of architecture in the country is exclusive to registered and licensed architects. The overwhelming physical attendance at NatCon50 was not just a show of force, but a powerful demonstration of the collective unity and unwavering support of Filipino architects for the policies and advocacies being championed by the UAP's national leadership.
