(UPDATE) THE Philippine government, through the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), secured the release and repatriation of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia for possession of illegal drugs.

The unnamed OFW, who was convicted on Sept. 24, 2024, was granted freedom by Saudi Arabian authorities following diplomatic and legal efforts of the DMW in coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
