First lady Liza hands-on with Asean 2026 preparations

MANILA, Philippines — First lady Liza Araneta-Marcos is actively involved in preparations for the country’s hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summits next year, an annual gathering that economists see as a platform to enhance regional cooperation in the face of rising trade tensions.

The Philippines will serve as the chair of the Asean for its 48th and 49th summits in 2026 after Southeast Asian leaders decided against letting Myanmar fulfill its hosting duties, following the military’s removal of Aung San Suu Kyi. Malaysia hosted the Asean summit this year.
