For years, Filipinos have been in Hollywood, just rarely as themselves. They have appeared in the background, taken on roles written for other identities and contributed quietly behind the scenes. Now, everything is beginning to change. Among those helping lead that shift is Filipina-American actress Isa Briones.
In the HBO Max medical drama “The Pitt,” Briones plays Dr. Trinity Santos, a sharp, sometimes blunt but deeply committed first-year resident navigating the relentless demands of a Pittsburgh emergency room. More than simply placing her in the spotlight, the role allows Briones to bring her heritage, voice and lived experience into a space where Filipino identity has long been underrepresented.
