Little Sunshine: Tap dance for kids at Sunshine Place

EDMUND Genecela Gaerlan, a leading figure in Southeast Asian dance with over four decades of experience blending classical technique and contemporary style, will conduct a tap dance class for kids on Thursdays at Sunshine Place, starting April 30, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

“Tap Dance for Kids” is another workshop under the Little Sunshine Series, where kids up to eight years old can learn basic tap dance footwork, beat and rhythm, foot coordination, simple routines, step patterns and tempo.

Through fun and engaging exercises, students will learn how to create sounds with their feet while developing timing, musicality and confidence.

Classes are designed to be interactive and enjoyable, incorporating simple routines, games and guided practice to help young dancers build a strong foundation in tap. In a supportive and encouraging environment, children are given the opportunity to express themselves while improving focus, balance and coordination.

For those who wish to continue, more challenging combinations and rhythm patterns will be introduced, allowing students to build on the skills learned in the initial sessions and further explore the art of tap dance.

The workshop welcomes beginners and those with some dance experience.

Gaerlan began his career in the Philippines, rising to soloist with Ballet Philippines, and has since performed, choreographed and taught across Hong Kong, Japan and Indonesia.
