SUN Life Philippines has taken a major step toward more sustainable operations by transitioning its head office, Sun Life Centre in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, to geothermal power. The building is now powered by 100-percent renewable energy through a partnership with First Gen, one of the country’s leading clean energy providers.
The move reinforces Sun Life’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and operating responsibly amid growing climate challenges. By adopting cleaner energy sources with lower emissions, the company strengthens its long-term sustainability efforts while supporting a more climate-resilient future.
“This milestone demonstrates that sustainability isn’t just part of our corporate values, but embedded in how we operate,” said Michelle Cordero-Garcia, chief human resources officer of Sun Life Philippines.
The transition also builds on Sun Life Centre’s pioneering green building legacy. In 2012, it became the first building in the Philippines to earn LEED Gold certification for Core and Shell. The facility continues to uphold sustainability through features such as rainwater harvesting, motion-sensor lighting, double-glazed windows, and a green roof that contribute to energy savings.
