An exhibition inspired by the symbolism and enduring appeal of pearls is bringing together contemporary Filipino artists in a celebration of art, craftsmanship and creative expression.
Presented by Art Lounge Manila in partnership with Hoseki Jewelry Art, “The Allure of Pearls” marks the jewelry house’s 30th anniversary and runs until June 30 at Art Lounge Manila in The Podium, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
Founded in 1996, Hoseki Jewelry Art was established with the aim of creating jewelry as wearable art. Under the creative leadership of jewelry designer Fai Co and Knoi Austria Esmane, the company has received more than 30 international design awards and gained recognition in the field of fine jewelry.
The exhibition gathers works by Flor Baradi, Frank Caña, Denzel Royce Chang, Buds Convocar, Rum Corvera, Percival Cruz, Katrina Cuenca, Jonathan Dangue, Joe Datuin, Anna de Leon, Lee Dequito, Rouel Dionisio, Knoi Esmane, Jeann Fadul, Fai Co, Jojo Fadul, Ricky Francisco, Caloy Gabuco, Carlo Magno, Noli Manalang, Bertrand Ng, Julieanne Ng, Cindy Ng Sy, Roel Obemio, Anna Orlina, Ramon Orlina, Lydia Velasco and Migs Villanueva.
At the center of the exhibition is Roel Obemio’s tribute to Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” accompanied by a series of paintings on spherical canvases inspired by the pearl. Through figurative and abstract works, participating artists examine themes of beauty, resilience, transformation and elegance.
Beyond its focus on jewelry and visual art, the exhibition also references the Philippines’ association with the title “Pearl of the Orient Seas,” a phrase linked to José Rizal’s poem “Mi Último Adiós.” Organizers said the exhibition reflects on qualities often associated with both pearls and the nation, including perseverance, strength and hope.
Knoi Esmane, partner and chief creative officer of Hoseki Inc. and one of the featured artists, described the anniversary as a reflection on endurance and creativity.
“Thirty years is a remarkable milestone. In a world where trends constantly change, longevity is not merely a measure of time but a testament to resilience, growth and the ability to remain inspired while staying true to one’s identity,” Esmane said.
He said pearls have remained a source of inspiration across cultures and generations, adding that the exhibition creates “a meaningful dialogue between tradition and innovation.”
“Each work reflects the imagination, skill and evolving vision that transform a classic gem into a source of contemporary expression,” he said.
Looking ahead, Esmane said the company’s next chapter would be shaped by “new voices, collaborations and creative possibilities.”
Fai Co, founder of Hoseki Inc. and a featured artist in the exhibition, reflected on the company’s beginnings and the role pearls play in the anniversary presentation.
“Thirty years ago, Hoseki began as a passion project fueled by a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, beauty and the stories that jewelry can tell,” Co said.
He said pearls serve as a fitting symbol for the occasion because they are “shaped by time, patience and nature’s quiet magic.”
“In many ways, their journey reflects our own — formed through years of dedication, learning, perseverance and growth,” he said.
Co added that the exhibition highlights the work of artists, designers and artisans while exploring the connections between jewelry and visual art.
“It is a celebration of creativity across disciplines and a reminder that true artistry knows no boundaries,” he said.
Art Lounge Manila is located on the ground floor of The Podium in Mandaluyong City.
