THE emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has been making waves not just in workplaces, where efficiency and productivity are king, but also in our personal lives, where the common goal is convenience.
AI has been integrated in almost every aspect of our daily routines nowadays, whether we are consciously aware of its presence or not.
Communication channels like Facebook Messenger are no exception, especially with its AI-powered features, which can rephrase and proofread messages, as well as customize them to match a chosen tone or mood, and perform many other intelligent tasks. When inquiring about services online, you’ll also notice that businesses use such technologies for seamless customer service. Called chatbots, these AI-supported automated response systems are sometimes so comprehensive and context-aware that they seem as though they are coming from human representatives when it’s actually agentic AI. When traveling, many of us rely on navigation apps such as Google Maps and Waze, which also uses AI and machine learning algorithms to predict traffic jams, estimated arrival times, accidents and other road conditions, helping commuters and travelers plan their trips and navigate their daily activities more efficiently.
Beyond daily commute, some people use AI tools to generate personalized travel itineraries that match their preferences, interests and travel goals.
Meanwhile, for some, AI has become a source of companionship and support. They turn to AI chatbots such as ChatGPT for advice, guidance and assistance in everyday life, from simple tasks such as finding food recipes to seeking clarification on complex issues or weighing options when making major decisions.
Feedback on generative AI varies from person to person, but one thing is common: the experience largely depends on how the technology is used. While some people see AI as a helpful assistant that enhances their daily lives, others remain cautious about relying on it too heavily due to its inconsistencies.
AI has also been casually used by online users to create realistic photos or videos of themselves in different imagined scenarios or settings.
One example is the trending AI-generated image of people watching a football match, giving off what Gen Z refers to as “main character vibes.” Similar AI-generated posters have also circulated online, often used for local events, small business marketing and personal promotions.
While these can all be fun and creative, they also come with potential risks. Some users, especially those less familiar with AI-generated content, might have difficulty distinguishing real from AI-generated images, particularly when visuals are highly realistic or shared without context.
In the modern dating scene, AI systems are also integrated into dating apps to improve matchmaking, safety features and overall user experience. Some of these include automatically selecting the best profile photo, detecting fake accounts and providing ready prompts for opening messages.
AI, undoubtedly, can bring many wonders to life — not to mention its convenience through its ability to respond quickly — but this shouldn’t have to take us away from reality. Responsible usage through constant cross-checking and critical thinking is always a must to ensure accuracy and reliability of any information.
