TRAVEL between Cavite and Laguna is set to become faster, cheaper and more convenient following the opening of the Governor’s Drive exit along the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

The newly opened 7.8-kilometer section connects Aguinaldo Highway in Silang, Cavite, to Governor’s Drive in General Trias, creating a more direct route for motorists traveling across Southern Luzon.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon on Tuesday described the project as a major boost to regional connectivity, helping improve the movement of people, goods and services between Cavite, Laguna and Metro Manila.

Dizon said the new segment significantly reduces travel time, cutting trips that previously took much longer to approximately 30 minutes.

“For those working in Taguig or BGC and living in Cavite, CALAX is now the route to take. It’s a huge relief,” Dizon said.

The opening of the Governor’s Drive exit further expands CALAX’s role as a critical transport corridor linking key residential, commercial and industrial hubs in the region.

Authorities estimate that nearly 50,000 motorists and commuters will benefit daily from the newly operational segment.

The additional section is also designed to accommodate around 6,000 more motorists each day, helping decongest existing road networks in Cavite and Laguna.

Currently stretching 26 kilometers from the Mamplasan Entry in Laguna, CALAX will eventually reach its full 44.63-kilometer length, connecting the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Mamplasan to the Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit.

The flagship toll road project, which broke ground in June 2017, carries an estimated cost of P35.43 billion and is one of the government’s major infrastructure investments in Southern Luzon.

Once completed, CALAX will feature eight strategic interchanges: Laguna Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa–Tagaytay, Silang East, Silang (Aguinaldo), Governor’s Drive, Open Canal and Kawit.

Officials said the fully integrated CALAX-CAVITEX network is expected to accommodate up to 95,000 vehicles daily, easing congestion along Aguinaldo Highway, Governor’s Drive and Santa Rosa–Tagaytay Road while strengthening trade, investment and mobility across the region. Business groups and transport stakeholders have welcomed the development, citing improved access to commercial centers and industrial zones.
