Negros Occidental Garden Club holds annual mangrove planting activity

THE Negros Occidental Garden Club (NOGC) gathered at Purok Batad, Barangay Sampinit, Bago City for its annual mangrove planting activity. Led by President Nonoy Napao, together with the officers and board of directors, members came together to continue a tradition that has become one of the club’s most meaningful endeavors.

Guidance and support were provided by Rex Magbanua, Bantay Katunggan Coordinator of the City Environment Management Office – Bago City, along with the dedicated personnel of Bantay Katunggan Bago City. Their expertise ensured the successful planting of mangrove propagules along the shoreline.

"This initiative, first launched in 2019 under the leadership of the late former president Nenita Estrella, has grown into a lasting commitment," said President Napao. "Today, we were delighted to see how mangroves planted seven years ago have flourished — a living testament to the club’s dedication to protecting coastal ecosystems and strengthening communities."

Mangroves are nature’s frontline defenders. They stabilize shorelines, reduce erosion and shield communities from storm surges and floods. They nurture fish and marine life, sustain local livelihoods, filter water and keep coastal habitats healthy. Just as importantly, they absorb carbon, making them vital allies in the fight against climate change. For NOGC, this work is about safeguarding the environment and building a greener, safer future for generations to come.

The club extends its heartfelt thanks to all who joined and supported this important activity.
