MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa called on Filipino professionals in Canada to "share their expertise" with their motherland by joining the Balik Scientist Program (BSP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST).
"Shape the nation. Be part of the solution. Bring your knowledge home," the embassy posted on Facebook over the weekend.
The BSP brings Filipino experts back to the Philippines to "collaborate with local institutions, strengthen research and development, and drive innovation that directly benefits communities," the embassy said.
"It is a powerful way to turn global expertise into national progress — helping bridge the gap in critical fields while advancing science and technology in the country," it added.
Meanwhile, Philippine Ambassador to Canada Jose Victor Chan-Gonzaga recently met with Jay Allen, director general of Trade Negotiations, Global Affairs Canada (GAC), to discuss the progress of the ongoing Philippines-Canada Free Trade Agreement and the Asean-Canada Free Trade Agreement.
"The discussion provided an opportunity to exchange views on the current status of both negotiations and to reaffirm the shared commitment of the Philippines and Canada to strengthening economic relations and expanding trade and investment opportunities," the embassy said.
Chan-Gonzaga conveyed the embassy's full support for the ongoing negotiations and expressed its readiness to assist the process by continuing to engage with government agencies, the private sector, and other relevant stakeholders.
He also reaffirmed the Philippines' commitment to working closely with Canada to bring the negotiations to a successful conclusion.
The meeting reflected the continuing commitment of the Philippines and Canada to enhancing their economic partnership and promoting a rules-based, inclusive, and mutually beneficial trading relationship, the embassy said.
