TACLOBAN CITY — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Auto Mechanic Training Centre Project honored its scholars and long-time partners during a recognition ceremony held on Thursday, July 2, at the Tesda Regional Office 8 Multi-Purpose Covered Court, highlighting nearly two decades of industry-driven technical education. Tesda Regional Director Dan Navarro said the program stands as proof that sustained collaboration among government, the private sector and development organizations can transform lives through skills training and employment.

“It is with great pride and satisfaction that I extend my warm welcome to all of you today, as we celebrate another milestone in our shared commitment to uplift the underprivileged and create a better, more equal world for all,” Navarro said in his inspirational message.

Navarro recalled that he first witnessed the project’s impact during a site visit on May 26, 2016, saying the initiative has since continued to produce graduates equipped with technical skills and opportunities for stable employment.

“This project is more than a training center because it represents hope, opportunity and the unwavering belief that every Filipino deserves the chance to build a better future through education and dignified work,” he said.

The Tesda Auto Mechanic Training Centre Project, established in 2008 through the partnership of Isuzu Motors Ltd. (IML), PLAN Philippines and Tesda, later expanded its collaboration in 2012 with the World Vision Development Foundation Inc. to strengthen scholarship and training support.

Project data showed that the center has produced 455 graduates from Batches 1 to 24 with a 94.79-percent employment rate, while it currently houses 69 scholars across five training batches in Automotive Servicing National Certificate (NC) I to IV.

Batch 25, composed of 18 trainees including two women and 16 men will be deployed to various Isuzu dealerships nationwide after completing the two-year competency-based training program.

The scholarship provides free board and lodging, uniforms, training supplies, toiletries, driver’s license assistance, medical and dental coverage, accident and life insurance, and on-the-job training, with graduates assured of employment after completing the program.

Navarro thanked Isuzu, PLAN Philippines, World Vision and other stakeholders for sustaining the project over the years.

“Together, we continue to build not only skilled automotive technicians but also responsible citizens whose success will benefit their families, their communities and our nation,” Navarro ended.
