The case stemmed from the ₱75 million in campaign funds received by Marcoleta.

The funds were allegedly received during his time as House lawmaker.

The Office of the Ombudsman said their decision to file charges against Marcoleta was not made lightly or by choice.

They say the evidence included three cash donations that were undeclared in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth.

Marcoleta denied that the campaign donations were illegal.

He said these donations were allowed by the Comelec.

Canada has reaffirmed its support for the 2016 arbitral ruling on the South China Sea.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reiterated this during a joint press conference with Marcos.

He emphasized his country’s support for international law and the rules-based international order.

For his part, Marcos welcomed Canada’s continued support for the Philippines’ position in the West Philippine Sea.

Gasoline and diesel prices are expected to increase again next week.

Local oil industry sources say diesel prices are estimated to go up by around ₱1 to ₱3 per liter.

Gasoline prices, meanwhile, are expected to increase by up to ₱1 per liter.

Sources say the price adjustments came as the global market reacted to recent retaliations between Israel, the U.S., and Iran.

Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala got her revenge against Australian Maya Joint.

She defeated Joint in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-love, in a second-round match at the Wimbledon Open.

Eala previously lost to the Australian in the 2025 Eastbourne Open.

The Tourism Department has named P-pop girl group BINI as one of the country’s tourism ambassadors.

BINI was at the Department of Tourism in Makati for the launching ceremony.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said one of her biggest takeaways from meeting the group was that each girl actually represents a province or a town.

She noted that every member of BINI is very knowledgeable about the charming features of her hometown.

Each member, she said, has something unique to contribute to tourism because every place in the Philippines has a hidden treasure.
