MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Saturday said the city consolidated what could have been four separate infrastructure projects into a single P77.4-million undertaking covering road rehabilitation, drainage construction, drainage upgrades, and sidewalk improvements along Elisco Road and Axis Road.

The project involved the reblocking of 910 linear meters of road using one-day ready-mix concrete with a 3,500-psi rating and two layers of steel reinforcement.

It also included the construction of 476 linear meters of new reinforced concrete box culvert drainage, the upgrading of 2,640 linear meters of existing drainage, and the construction of 3,730 linear meters of concrete sidewalks with bollards.

Sotto explained that the drainage and sidewalk works extended beyond the road rehabilitation because only road sections that required repairs were reblocked.

"You’ll notice that the drainage and sidewalk works cover a longer stretch than the road reblocking. We don’t undertake projects when they aren’t needed; we don’t tear up roads that are still in good condition," Sotto said.

The mayor added that the road was built to a higher standard than previous work completed about a decade ago, noting that a section near Meralco previously had no drainage system.

He also said the newly completed sidewalks have significantly improved walkability, although some issues, including the presence of Meralco utility poles, still need to be addressed.
