BAGUIO CITY — The Summer Capital was recognized for its outstanding environmental management efforts after receiving three awards at the 9th Cordillera Environment Summit held from June 30 to July 1 here.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said it was a privilege for the city to participate in the event where various local government units and sectors were honored for their commitment to environmental responsibility, cleanliness and sustainable waste management.
The awards were conferred by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Cordillera Administrative Region (DENR-CAR) in recognition of Baguio’s continued efforts to promote proper solid waste management and environmental protection.
Among the honors received by the city were the Badang: Responsible Residual Waste Disposal Award, a Certificate of Recognition for Composting in acknowledgment of its dedication to diverting biodegradable waste through composting initiatives, and the EMB-Assisted Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) Operations Recognition, which cited the city’s excellence in maintaining an efficient Materials Recovery Facility that supports proper waste management practices.
