BATANGAS II Electric Cooperative Inc.’s (Batelec II) board has approved a move to seek a private sector partner via a competitive selection process (CSP).

In a statement, Batelec said that a CSP would promote transparency, fairness, competitiveness and equal opportunity among parties that may be interested in helping it improve its distribution utility services.

It said that a technical working group had been formed and instructed to prepare the terms of reference for the CSP in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.

The framework under which the CSP will be held will recognize that any partnership affecting cooperative assets, property or franchise remains subject to approval by member-consumer-owners.

“Strategic partnerships continue to be explored by many electric cooperatives as a means of strengthening operations and improving service quality,” Batelec said.

“As these initiatives evolve, governance will play an increasingly important role in ensuring that partnership decisions are objective, transparent and legally defensible,” it added.
