TACLOBAN CITY — Fifteen days after the June 22 shooting, classes will resume on Monday, July 6, at the San Jose National High School in Barangay 84, San Jose District here, the Department of Education (DepEd) Tacloban City Division said.
The reopening announcement was made by DepEd information officer in Tacloban City Division, Dr. Nilo Eder.
Eder said the more than 1,600 high school students underwent stress debriefing by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
He said the school buildings were repainted, perimeter fences around the school have been concreted, with CCTV units installed.
Eder said the room where the shooting incident occurred will no longer be used for classes and it will be used as office, while the students will be transferred to another room.
“The San Jose National High School is now considered safe, with CCTV cameras, concrete fences and security protection following the shooting incident,” declared Dr. Eder.
He explained that they have no data so far on how many students had transferred to other schools after the incident.
Three high school students were killed and 23 were wounded when two students went on a shooting rampage in the morning of June 22.
The three shooting victims had been laid to rest in a private memorial on June 30, July 1 and July 2.
The families of the three victims cried for justice as the two suspects were detained at the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth in Barangay Sto. Niño, Tanauan, Leyte.
One of them is facing criminal charges before the Tacloban City Prosecutor’s Office.
