MANILA, Philippines — Slower increases in transport and fuel costs helped bring inflation down to 6.4 percent in June, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Tuesday.
This is the second straight month that inflation has gone down since April’s over three-year high of 7.2 percent. This is also lower than the 6.8 percent a month earlier but higher than last year’s 1.4 percent.
“The downtrend in the overall inflation in June 2026 was primarily brought about by the slower annual increase in the transport index at 12.8 percent during the month from 16.2 percent in May 2026,” PSA National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa said during the briefing.
Core inflation, which excludes select food and energy items, rose to 4.4 percent in June 2026, from 4.1 percent in the previous month. It was also higher than the 1.4 percent core inflation in June 2025.
