BACOLOD CITY — Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental has been declared safe and secured on Monday night after security teams inspected the entire campus and cleared all sites named in an emailed bomb threat. 

The university issued an advisory on Monday evening, calling for the immediate evacuation of all buildings and dormitories as well as the activation of security protocols. 

The threat was received at 10:06 a.m. from the email address [email protected] which claimed six bombs were planted at the Luce Auditorium, Senior High School buildings, third floor of the Oriental Hall, Junior High School area and the Chanon Hall. 

Upon receiving the information, the Police Regional Office in Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) orderded for the mobilization of teams from the Dumaguete City Police, PNP Explosive Ordnance Disposal and K-9 units, Philippine Coast Guard EOD and K-9 teams and the Special Operations Group Southern Visayas to secure the campus and conduct systematic inspections. 

By 10:10 p.m., the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office officially declared all five targeted locations and the entire campus clear of any explosive devices or suspicious items.

PRO-NIR director BGen. Romano Cardiño said the safety and security of the students, staff and academic community is a top priority. He also reminded the public that making bomb threats and spreading false information are punishable by law.  Investigation to identify the source of the bomb threat is ongoing.
