MANILA, Philippines — The Defense and Sporting Arms Show (DSAS) returns for its 32nd edition, reaffirming its commitment to promoting responsible gun ownership, firearms education, and the continued growth of the shooting sports community in the Philippines.
Organized by the Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers of the Philippines, Inc. (AFAD), the five-day event will be held from July 22 to 26 at the SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.
Recognized as one of the country’s premier firearms and outdoor lifestyle exhibitions, DSAS brings together the country’s leading firearms importers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and industry stakeholders, alongside sports shooters, collectors, and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can expect to see a comprehensive showcase of locally manufactured and imported firearms, ammunition, optics, shooting accessories, tactical equipment, outdoor gear, and the latest innovations from some of the biggest names in the firearms industry.
This year’s opening ceremony will be graced by Senate President Pro Tempore Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri as Guest of Honor. A longtime advocate of responsible gun ownership and shooting sports, Zubiri’s presence underscores the importance of balancing public safety with the rights of law- abiding Filipino firearm owners.
Beyond the exhibits, organizers emphasized that DSAS remains a venue for public education on firearm safety, lawful ownership, and responsible use.
AFAD President Aric Topacio said responsible firearm ownership is founded on education, discipline, and respect for the law. “The firearms industry is not simply about commerce. It is about cultivating a community of responsible, law-abiding firearm owners who understand that every firearm carries with it a serious obligation,” Topacio said.
“The Defense and Sporting Arms Show has always been an educational platform where we promote safe handling, proper storage, legal compliance, and responsible participation in shooting sports. We believe that informed and responsible citizens contribute to a safer society,” he added.
Topacio also emphasized that recent incidents involving the criminal misuse of firearms should reinforce the importance of enforcing existing laws against offenders rather than unfairly stigmatizing licensed, law-abiding firearm owners.
“Criminal acts should be met with swift justice against those who commit them. Law-abiding firearm owners who undergo licensing, background checks, and comply with existing regulations should not be equated with criminals. Public policy is strongest when it targets criminal behavior while respecting the rights of responsible citizens,” stressed Topacio.
He added that AFAD supports evidence-based measures that improve accountability and public safety without placing unnecessary burdens on legitimate firearm owners, sports shooters, collectors, and enthusiasts who faithfully comply with Philippine firearms laws.
AFAD continues to work closely with the Philippine National Police-Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO), local government units, and other government agencies in promoting proper licensing, firearm safety education, and compliance with existing regulations.
According to Topacio, the organization’s longstanding partnership with regulators demonstrates that responsible firearm ownership and public safety are complementary, not competing objectives.
“Responsible gun ownership begins with respect for the law. We have consistently encouraged our members and the public to comply with licensing requirements, safety standards, and responsible handling practices. Effective enforcement of existing laws remains essential in keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals while protecting the rights of qualified, law-abiding citizens."
The 32nd DSAS will also feature seminars, live demonstrations, product launches, and educational sessions covering firearm safety, marksmanship, sports shooting development, legal updates, and responsible ownership.
For more than three decades, AFAD has remained at the forefront of advancing firearm safety, ethical industry practices, and shooting sports in the Philippines. Through DSAS, the organization continues to advocate that firearm ownership is both a lawful right for qualified citizens and a serious personal responsibility—one best upheld through education, training, accountability, and faithful compliance with the law.
