Vice President Sara Duterte was at the Senate for a meeting with her lawyers. However, she did not attend the hearing. This is the second day of her impeachment trial. Duterte is facing impeachment over allegations that include the misuse of confidential funds and death threats against President Marcos. She has denied the accusations. The Senate Impeachment Court is now hearing the prosecution’s case against the Vice President.

Senator Rodante Marcoleta underwent a full scan of his health condition to determine his fitness to stand trial. Marcoleta had complained of chest and nape pain. Test results will be assessed to determine possible medical procedures in the future. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla says the medical check-up on the 72-year-old Marcoleta might take two days. Marcoleta was arrested yesterday over charges of plunder. This is in connection with the campaign donations he received from his three co-accused. The three — former lawmaker Mike Defensor and businessmen Aristotle Viray and Joseph Espiritu — were also arrested.

Storm signals may be raised over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon this evening or tomorrow morning due to Super Typhoon Bavi. The highest wind signal that may be hoisted is likely Signal Number 2 or 3. This may happen this evening or tomorrow morning, according to PAGASA. “Bavi” is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. According to PAGASA, once inside the PAR, the tropical cyclone will be given the local name “Inday.” The weather disturbance has a low chance of landfall over any parts of Luzon. 

Inflation is down to 6.4 percent in June. This was disclosed by the Philippine Statistics Authority, or PSA. This is lower than the 6.8 percent a month earlier but higher than last year’s 1.4 percent. This is the second straight month that inflation has gone down since April’s over three-year high of 7.2 percent. The PSA says slower increases in transport and fuel costs helped bring inflation down.
