THE Philippine National Police Health Service said on Tuesday that Sen. Rodante Marcoleta will undergo a medical examination to determine his fitness to stand trial.
The Health Service’s 8 a.m. report said there is ongoing health monitoring and evaluation of Marcoleta’s concerns, including chest and nape pain.
It added that the senator had undergone fasting the previous night in preparation for his laboratory tests in the morning.
The Health Service said the results of the tests will be the basis for determining if more medical procedures are needed to determine Marcoleta’s capacity to endure trial.
Marcoleta and his co-accused, former lawmaker Mike Defensor, and businessmen Aristotle Viray and Joseph Espiritu, were arrested on Monday following the Sandiganbayan Third Division’s release of a warrant for their arrest over charges of plunder.
Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said government physicians’ full evaluation of Marcoleta’s health might take two days given that the lawmaker is 72 years old.
He was already subjected to standard booking procedures at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Monday, where his mugshot was taken.
