Grade 10 student stabbed dead by stepfather
CAMP GENERAL ALEJO S SANTOS, Malolos City, Bulacan — A 14-year-old Grade 10 female student died after being stabbed in the neck allegedly by his stepfather who tried to rape her in Barangay Subic, City of Baliwag, Bulacan, early Monday morning.
Col. Jay Baybayan, acting provincial director of Bulacan Police Provincial Office, said the suspect was identified as Sandro Dax Saglayan, 37, stepfather of the victim and a resident of the said area.
Baybayan said the suspect, was under the influence of liquor, tried to rape the victim, whose mother is a high school teacher. The suspect, the police said, is also a teacher and ex-Marine.
“The suspect was drunk during the commission of the crime,” said Baybayan. “The victim was killed by stabbing her neck. The suspect had intention to rape but was unsuccessful.”
Based on the report submitted by Lt. Col Eisbon Llamasares, chief of the Baliwag City Police Station (CPS), their station received a call at around 3:30 a.m. from a hospital regarding a minor female who was brought there with a stab wound on her neck.
Investigators immediately went to the hospital to verify the report and learned that the victim was brought to the hospital by the suspect himself along with the victim’s mother.
Despite immediate efforts by medical personnel to save the victim’s life, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The suspect is now in custody of Baliwag CPS for necessary documentation and preparation of the case to be filed against him.
The police have not yet released the full details on why the suspect stabbed the victim. After the crime, Baliwag CPS personnel immediately conducted an ocular inspection at the scene of the incident and requested assistance from the Bulacan Provincial Forensic Unit for crime scene processing and other forensic examinations.
Baliwag City Mayor Sonia Estrella extended her condolences to the victim’s family.
“This incident is not only a serious crime against an innocent child but also an attack on our cherished rights, dignity and safety of every citizen, especially our youth who deserve to live free from any form of violence and abuse,” Estrella said.
