THE European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) underscored the need for a more patient-centered health care system during its 2026 Healthcare Forum held at Makati Shangri-La Hotel on June 18.
ECCP President Diana Edralin said the success of UHC should be measured by the quality of patients’ experiences, emphasizing the need for a seamless health care journey from preventive care to specialized treatment.
Discussions also focused on improving access to medicines and innovative treatments. Food and Drug Administration Director General Irene Fariñas outlined reforms to streamline regulatory processes through digitalization, risk-based evaluations, and reliance pathways that leverage assessments from trusted international regulators to speed up product approvals while maintaining safety and quality standards.
The forum likewise highlighted the importance of community-based health care and public-private partnerships. Quezon City Medical Coordinator Marlon Molano presented the city’s integrated mental health programs, while Boehringer Ingelheim Philippines’ Maria Greta Cortez shared how partnerships such as Iwas Dialysis and Ligtas Kidneys help strengthen early detection and continuity of care.
The ECCP concluded by reaffirming its support for stronger health are financing, digital transformation, regulatory efficiency, and sustained collaboration between the public-private sectors.
