The US Marine Corps Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC) Band performed a free public concert at the SM Mall of Asia Sky Amphitheater on June 28 as part of the United States’ “Freedom 250” campaign, celebrating the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence.
Organized by the US Embassy in the Philippines in partnership with SM Mall of Asia, the event also commemorated the longstanding ties between the United States and the Philippines ahead of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 75th anniversary of the Mutual Defense Treaty, both to be observed in 2026.
The concert featured performances by the MARFORPAC Band alongside the Armed Forces of the Philippines Band and artists from the World Championship of Performing Arts, highlighting the two countries’ shared cultural heritage and longstanding friendship through music.
“At its heart, Freedom 250 is more than a milestone—it is a moment to honor what America stands for and the ideals that have shaped it across generations,” US Embassy Deputy Director of Public Engagement Chad Kinnear said.
“Through the music of the MARFORPAC Band, that story is told without words, carried by the artistry, discipline, and goodwill that US military musicians have brought to stages around the world. We are proud to share that experience here, as a reflection of the deep and enduring bond between our two nations,” he added.
The MARFORPAC Band is composed of 39 Marines, with a 10-member brass ensemble representing the group during the Philippine visit. The musicians, who also serve as trained Marines, perform jazz and contemporary music throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
“They are not only musicians — they are Marines,” said US Marine Chief Warrant Officer 2 Aaron Carpenter, the band’s director.
“Every one of them completed the same recruit training as every other Marine who has ever served under our flag. They earned the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. Music is how they serve—and in every note they play, they carry the values of this Corps: honor, courage, and commitment,” Carpenter said.
Beyond the public concert, the visiting musicians held workshops for students at the Philippine High School for the Arts and the University of the East, providing opportunities for cultural exchange and music education.
The band’s Philippine tour concluded with performances during the US Embassy’s annual Independence Day reception, part of the broader “Freedom 250” campaign celebrating America’s founding principles, innovation and international partnerships.
Through concerts and community engagement across the Indo-Pacific, the MARFORPAC Band continued to promote cultural diplomacy while strengthening people-to-people ties between the United States and its regional partners, including the Philippines.
