Mother’s Day is always a big to-do especially in the Philippines where retail and food establishments try to outdo each other in ways to honor the first woman in our lives. This year it falls on May 10, which is the second Sunday of May.

As time goes on, our sphere of special women expands to include sisters, friends, cousins, helpers and older relatives. While a heartfelt text message or telephone call is always welcome, there are other more tangible — and tasty — ways to show our love.
